Abstrakt
W żywocie Zenobii autor Historia Augusta sugerował, że dobrze znała ona historię Aleksandrii i wschodu, oraz sporządziła ona epitome dotyczącej niej. W tej sytuacji istnieją dwie możliwości. Zenobia rzeczywiście mogła napisać taką pracę historyczną, lub też autor Historia Augusta przypisał jej to. Ów autor popełnił błędy dotyczące imion synów królowej, więc jest mało prawdopodobne, aby dysponował realną wiedzę o królowej. Istnieje kilka możliwości wytłumaczenia, czemu autor Historia Augusta przypisał jej autorstwo dzieła historycznego: była to aluzja do zajęcia Egiptu przez wojska królowej, nawiązanie do dzieła Kallinikosa z Petry, albo do satyr Juwenalisa. W Historia Augusta wielokrotnie wspominane są dzieła tworzone przez władców, dotyczy to zarówno wiarygodnych żywotów, jak tych które są mocno fikcyjne. Niestety żadna z tych hipotez nie jest do końca przekonująca.
